"In a Black and White World
... there's a lot of gray"

Shifting sand, always changing... a metaphor for life. As I was painting this piece and allowing it to "become" I was struck by the realization that this piece reflected my philosophy about being "flexible"... that one has to bend and "let" life happen shifting much like the wind swept sand; knowing that all is not black and white, and we must strive to see all aspects of every situation. This is not the first time that the calla lily appeared in one of my paintings. My feeling is that it represents purity of Spirit. May you find the gray in every situation; live and let live; love one another and ENJOY!

"On the Way to Capitan"

On one of our travels out West, I was struck by the openness of the sky, the barren landscape that seems to go on forever before we get to the forests and the mountains. It has it's own sense of beauty and richness, however and this particular day the glow of the sun going down transformed it into a mystical vision just before dusk. Headlights in the distance added to the mystery and seemed literally, out of this world

"Ode to Mr. Gribble"

"Ode to Mr. Gribble"

I knew a wonderful man in the Texas Hill Country that I adopted as my grandfather... AM Gribble - I called him Mr. Gribble. He was a poet and a teacher, a philosopher of sorts, and he loved the jackrabbit cactus found in the rolling hillside. Maybe they were symbolic to him of the survivor instinct in all of us... to develop a prickly exterior as a shell, shielding us from life's pain of loss. I can't look at a cactus without thinking of Mr. Gribble and other mentors that came my way in this lifetime, then passed out of it so quietly.
